We fight for Sharks.
We are a group that is united against the shark fin and flake trade and united against Queensland's shark nets and drum line cull. We are here to support the rights of sharks.
About Fin Free Brisbane
Fin Free Brisbane was started in 2012 due to the lack of public awareness regarding the Shark fin trade in Brisbane.

Since that time we have expanded into numerous fields regarding how we can better help sharks. This includes the flake trade, Queensland’s shark nets and drum lines etc.

In 2013, as well as continuing our efforts to educate the members of the public regarding such issues, we have also started to expand into direct action techniques to assist in making a more significant impact more rapidly.

Our Campaigns
Our current campaigns are led by a dedicated team of volunteers and local supporters. Together we are currently underway in implementing our education and direct action techniques, these include:

sShark Fin Products

Outreach to the Asian Australian community about the destructive actions of eating shark fin, what it does to the shark populations worldwide as well as finically interrupting businesses that sell shark fin and shark products.

#Dangers of Flake

Explaining to the community about what their purchase of flake really is, how it affects their health by consuming it and what effect it is having on, not only shark population but also the effects it is having on the ocean generally.

¡Drum Lines

Educating the community regarding what drum lines actually are, how they are more hazardous and dangerous rather than keeping the community safer and explaining what shark nets are.

?Government Action

Forcing local governments to remove drum lines and nets by reducing the number of tourists and locals to beaches reducing the economy of business to areas that have nets and drum lines.

Our Flake Campaign
DID YOU KNOW that when you eat flake, you're eating shark?

Sharks are apex predators and too many species are becoming extinct! This is detrimental to the oceans ecosystem as sharks keep the oceans healthy and in blance. Without them, the ocean's ecosystem falls apart.

Independent testing of flake from local outlets around Australia have shown flake is not safe for human consumption. High levels of mercury and uric acid in flake can hinder brain development, affect the central nervous system, cause mental retardation, lowering of IQ, diabetes, the formation of ammonium acid urate kidney stones and even death! Many Supermarkets are no longer stocking flake due to these dangers.

Our Anti-Finning Campaign
DID YOU KNOW experts estimate that within a decade, most species of sharks will be lost because of shark finning?

Shark finning refers to the removal and retention of shark fins and the discard at sea of the carcass. The shark is most often still alive when it is tossed back into the water. Unable to swim, the shark slowly sinks toward the bottom where it is eaten alive by other fish.

Fin Free Brisbane are making a stand against this barbaric act in the hope that it is felt nation wide but we can't do it alone. We have designed and uploaded PDF infomation fact sheets that you can download and pass on to your friends, family and local resturants that are serving Shark Fin dishes. There are two downloads, one in English and the other in Chinese. With your support, we can end the shark fin trade in Australia.
